Today is the official start to the 2011 MLB baseball season but major leaguers aren't the only ones that start throwing the ball around this week. It’s estimated that 50 million boys and girls play Little League baseball and softball in the US alone. That’s 50 million kids between the ages of 5 and 12 running around and working up an appetite on fields all over this country.
Arden is a softball player and her brother Cole plays on multiple baseball teams. Just like many of you we spend a lot of time on baseball fields from April to November.
What is months ago now I spoke to the gentleman that runs our town’s little league program and said no more or less than what I have said here, then I expressed my wish that the stand could provide better options to refuel our kids. I told him that despite my best efforts it was difficult to keep up with our schedule while packing good food to eat at the games (I’m at those fields 4 and 5 times a week). He understood and said that he’d look into it.
Fast-forward to yesterday... I received an email that I am more then a little proud to tell you about - There will be yogurt and fresh fruit available at our snack stand on opening day and if they sell maybe they’ll add more! A tiny little triumph but one that I have a lot of hope for... I want our kids to have healthy options where ever they are all most as much as I want the my home town team back in the World Series...

Arden’s school pictures arrived yesterday and I immediately noticed that she had her CGM on in the photo. I started a conversation about it so I could commend her but as it turns out, she doesn’t need my pat on the back... She told me that as she waited in line for her turn to smile she was asked if, she’d like to take her DexCom 7+ off for the photo.
Arden declined!
If you look closely you can see that Arden wears her DexCom receiver in a Spibelt around her waist. She has many patterns and colors, on this day she was wearing a black pouch with multicolored peace signs.
I can’t tell you how proud I am of Arden for not wanting to hide her Continuous Glucose Monitor. Arden has diabetes and she doesn’t care who knows - so proud of her! Arden was featured in this news story about the OmniPod insulin pump back in the summer of 2010. It resurfaced the other day in our home town so I’m posting it again.
The story was reported from the same studio that the @JDRFEasternPA used to make a walk commercial that Arden was in last October.
Arden experienced a pod error the other day and we had to change her OmniPod two days early. Usually that is a bummer because you have to remove the old pod, prep the site and the new pod and deal with what they call “a pod change high”, which is a sorta unexplainable high BG trend that happens for a few hours after a pod switch.
Butt today none of that bothers me and no I didn’t spell ‘but’ incorrectly...
Today, out of thin air Arden announces that she is ready to put the pod on her buttocks. {This space reserved for you to feel my elation} It may not seem like a big deal butt... it is. With this leap of faith Arden she now has eight pod sites!!!!
Many people warned me that Arden was to thin for an OmniPod but I didn’t listen (finally my not listening pays off) and now just 13 months later we are up to eight sites, we only started with two. I’d dance if I was any good at dancing. You know what? You can’t see me, I’m gonna dance....
I’m back and yes I really did dance and no it wasn’t pretty but it felt great!
One small step for Arden...
