And the winner is...
GiveAway: Signed copy of my new book.
Hello and welcome to my super blatant attempt to get you to share the news about my new book, 'Life Is Short, Laundry Is Eternal'. Let's not mix words, I need your help getting the word out and I am giving away some of my personal stash of signed books in trade - sound fair?
I like to keep giveaways simple so how about you post on FaceBook, Twitter or Pinterest something like, "I can't wait to read Life Is Short, Laundry Is Eternal - http://bit.ly/AdLIS" and then leave a comment under this post telling me where you shared, something like this, "I want to win and I posted on FaceBook". Just make sure to include this link http://bit.ly/AdLIS when you post - it points to a book info page on Arden's Day, not to any retailer.
If by some chance there is more than, let's say, 50 20 entries, I'll giveaway another book. If we reach 100 60 entries, I'll add a third book and so on until my supply runs low, the contest gets boring or I get scolded by my publisher for giving away books.
Arden will draw a winner randomly from a hat, I'll contact you so you can choose how you'd like the book signed (nothing too dirty) and then personally mail you your book. Perhaps the lucky winner(s) will consider writing a short book review that I can post here on Arden's Day, maybe send a picture of you and your book?
As with any contest, please only enter once per book, one entry per person and let's say I reserve the right to make this up as we go along.
Contest is closed. Winner will be announced tomorrow. 4/23/13 8:30pm
The winner has been chosen!
Please contact me at ardensday@me.com to make shipping arrangements. Congratulations!
Readi Pak from Sanofi (GiveAway)
Did you know that Sanofi recently launched a multi-purpose bag venture? I didn't either. The entire thing seemed a bit odd to me at first, so I reached out to them with a few questions.
Was Readi Pak a company that Sanofi took over/rebranded?
Sanofi US designed Readi Pak after recognizing a need for a convenient and discreet way for people living with diabetes to carry around their diabetes supplies.
What made Sanofi get into this business? What is the goal?Sanofi strives to help people manage the complex challenges of diabetes by going beyond the molecule to develop and deliver best-in-class innovative, integrated and personalized solutions that address real needs people have in managing their diabetes every day. We designed the Readi Pak after recognizing a need for a convenient and discreet way for people living with diabetes to carry around diabetes supplies. To make this a relevant solution, we wanted input on the design and usability of the bags from those newly diagnosed with diabetes and shared our early prototypes with a small local student group (many of whom have type 1) for their feedback and opinions. We are pleased to offer new products such as the Readi Pak in order to help people manage their diabetes every day.
Are there plans to expand with other products?
At this time, this is a pilot program and we do not have any plans to expand or other products under development. However, our vision is to serve as a valued partner to the diabetes community by listening and engaging in a dialogue directly with people living with diabetes, and these conversations help us identify new opportunities to provide diabetes solutions that are truly relevant.
Now it makes sense to me why the company that makes Arden's insulin got involved in the D-accessory business. I've seen and used a Readi Pak and it's a solid product, appears very well made and was designed with diabetes in mind. It comes with a removable kit for your more often touched supplies and has plenty of room for all of the rest. It even has a reusable ice pack.
Enough of all that, let's get to the fun part.
I have three Readi Paks, one Camouflage, one Blue and one Pink Swirl (that I used to evaluate the bag (it's clean/new don't worry) to give away. I don't have many giveaways so please don't expect an elaborate system to be put in place to choose the winners. What you can expect is this... I'll be putting names in a hat and then asking Arden to draw them out. I assume no liability and offer no warrantee for the bags. If that sounds good to you... read on.
Anyone living in the U.S. (and that's only because I'm paying shipping) that is interested in winning a Readi Pak should comment below "Please Enter Me". Be sure to leave your email address in the provided place so I can contact you for a mailing address if you win. The drawing will be, let's say, Saturday, December, 22, 2012. Entries arriving before 9 AM on that day will be included in the drawing. Please include your color choice in the comment and I'll do my best to get it to you. There is only one rule, please just one entry per physical mailing address.

I was not compensated by Sanofi/Readi Pak for this post. I'm even giving away the bag that was offered to Arden.
You can quickly become a site member to stay informed of future GiveAways and announcements. I'll be giving some copies of my book away early next year.
This GiveAway ended in December of 2012.
Free books from Lilly Diabetes
In the summer of 2011 Lilly Diabetes and Disney partnered up to introduced a new character named Coco. Coco is a monkey (see below) and she has type I diabetes. Coco's backpack holds her D-Supplies, she wears an ID bracelet, hangs out, plays and checks her blood glucose while attending Goofy's birthday party. Arden really enjoyed seeing a character in a book that was so closely modelled after herself, sans the monkey thing of course.
Coco
This year Lilly introduced four new books that are written for the tween in your life. Allie is a soccer player, Justin the captain of his basketball team, Tim plays corner for his high school football team and Oliver is a friend of Hannah Montana. Each book is centered on a person with diabetes and the situations that type I brings to their lives.
They also introduced a cookbook called 'Dishing It Up Disney Style'. The book calls itself a "cookbook for families with type I diabetes". The recipes are not ultra low carb and the ones that we've made so far have been very flavorful. The book considers itself diabetes friendly because each recipe comes complete with an accurate carb count to help make insulin calculations easier. The goal of the cookbook is to offer meals that your kids will actually like while keeping the carbs per serving at a manageable level. I find this idea attractive as many 'diabetes friendly' recipes can often taste like wet cardboard.
I was given each of these books at the recent Lilly Blogger Summit. The books are sadly not available online or even in bookstores. The only way to currently get them is by asking your endocrinologist. Your doc has access to these books through their Lilly rep, they are free to the doctor and free to you. I know this isn't the greatest delivery system, time will tell if they are able to find other avenues to get these books into your hands. For now you'll have to ask your doc if you're interested.
Titles:
Up for the Challenge
Power Forward
Running Interference
Uptight (Oliver's All Right)
Coco and Goofy's Goofy Day
Dishing it up Disney Style
Disclosure: I attended an event hosted by Lilly Diabetes, who paid for my airfare, travel, hotel and meals while I was in Indianapolis.
DexCom CGM: Buy 4 sensors get 1 free offer
DexCom is offering a free sensor with your next order of four. This buy 4 get 1 free promotion seems to be an effort to get customers introduced to their new online store. Looks like you just have to register and then place your order via that online store. The offer ends in March 31, 2012.
If you are an adult (users under 18 see below) DexCom user this is a no-brainer, we've all been waiting for the company to set up an easier way of placing an order. Now you'll be able to order online or set up a auto-reorder. You can visit the DexCom website and choose the link that looks like the image below (they banner rotates), it will take you to this link.
Now if you are the parent of a Dex user things get a little confusing but you can still easily take advantage of the offer and set up an auto-reorder (they call it 'Schedule Ship'). Since minors can't register to make purchases through their online store the form on the website is not going to help you. I had to call customer service, wait for a call back, etc. I asked my CSR if there was an easier way for the parents that read my site to take advantage of this offer, he and I came up with this...
Parents of minors that use DexCom can take advantage of the buy 4 get 1 free offer by simply calling...
Brian at 877-339-2664, extension 5561
Tell Brian that you were sent by Scott from Arden's Day, that you would like to set up a Schedule Ship and receive a free sensor as part of their offer. Brian will email you the 'Schedule Shipment' form, you send it back to him and you'll be finished signing up for their Schedule Ship program... getting your free sensor in the process.
Speaking of free stuff:
Apidra is free until 4/30/12
I have a 3 year supply of Spring's Universal Infusion Sets to give away
